What I miss about the Lake House

I'm still working on the album, but I can't stop thinking, can't stop missing the unconditional love of family. Here are just a few of the things I can't stop missing:
  • Bare feet
  • Sand everywhere
  • Pie
  • Baby hugs
  • Really good food
  • Laughing so hard it hurt
  • Unending availability of hugs
  • Pie
  • People to talk to whenever you had something to say
  • The stairs
  • Waking up and sharing coffee
  • People who "get" me
  • Bubbles
  • The sound of the waves
  • Pie
  • Late-night conversations
  • Lightening bugs
  • Good beer, and friends to enjoy it with
  • My family
  • Rainier cherries
  • Pie
I have long believed that, when I spend time with my "real" family, the Bieritz family, it helps me to understand where I come from. But it is beginning to dawn on me that spending the past week or so with the Rice Carlson Bathje Bieritz family has helped me figure out where I am going. It certainly helped me learn what I am missing, where I am succeeding, and what I still want in my life.

And yes, one of those things is pie.

Mmm. Pie. I miss the pie. But not as much as I miss the peoples.

I made 2 pies yesterday, Banana Cream and Rhubarb, Both from scratch. Boy are they good, I would share if you were here. I did get to share them with my Mom and Dad so that made them taste even better.

I think today I will make an Apple crm. Cheese with crumb topping.
Then maybe I will have some friends over.

Fabulous!

Wow, col ... way to torture me. ;)

Isn't it funny how pie seems to bind people together? A pie shared is love given.

Sorry for the torture, if we were closer I would bring you a slice.
Pie is amazing. I am glad I am not the only one to enjoy it in the summer. It seems so many only enjoy it around the holidays. For me any day with friends and family is a holiday. A day to cherish and remember always. And when there is pie it is that much sweeter.

What is your favorite pie??

Having now been fully indoctrinated into the Rice Family, (that's the folks I vacationed with,) my life revolves around peach custard pie.

One bite and you know what heaven tastes like. It's a family tradition with them. Is there any wonder that I love them?

Great. One MORE person to fight over the last slice with. And I JUST got done shipping the competition to India ...

Well, in the south today, I made homemade almond and vanilla biscotti. I also made T-Cakes (little bite sized cupcakes that taste like carmelized chocolate chip cookie dough without the chocolate chips). Oh yeah, and oreo truffles.

Jody's bribing the hungry peoples at work and Barry's coming to dinner tomorrow night.

Life is good.

Hey, Rice family, got any pie left? I want some too...

Pie is good, there's no denying it, but I got sidetracked by "baby hugs." I can tell you from personal experience, there is nothing in this world that compares.

So glad you had a great vacation!

Baby in one hand and pie in the other; now THAT's perfection!

And Mike, Col will share pie when you guys come back. She's a giver that way.

The apple crm.cheese pie was fabulous but I have to say my all time fav is moms pumpkin pie. Although her apple strudel pie is pretty great too. Oh, who am I kidding, if it is pie it has to be good.
The only thing that may compare to the baby in one hand theory is a sticky pie kiss from said baby, those are hard to beat.
And of course Monkeyhouse man, I will be more than happy to make pie next time you come here to visit and Pie is always better when shared with friends and love...

Are you a lover of the Peach Custard or do you have another favorite??

I do not discriminate when it comes to pie. Though the peach custard is a favorite ...

Honestly, Col ... the peach custard is heaven in a crust. You have not lived until you have enjoyed the peach custard pie.

It's even good with a little sand.

cje has been known to say: "I have two favorite kinds of pie, one crust and two."

Me, too.

I think I'll have to make pie this week.

Something custard is in my future ...
